Launch a Meet & Greet
Mobility Centre
will plan and implement the construction of a Meet & Greet Mobility Centre near the Town of Banff.
Meet & Greet Mobility Centres are places where people can feel safe and comfortable to leave their vehicles and make use of the superior transportation and visitor services offered from the site. A Meet & Greet Mobility Centre is a vibrant mobility hub just outside the town centre where a visitor can find clear and easy parking, a welcoming atmosphere provided by essential services (gas stations, food vendors and washrooms, for example), visitor information, and an easy way to get aboard shuttle, transit and self-propelled modes of transportation. A tram or trolley will circulate regularly between the Meet & Greet Mobility Centre and the centre of Town, providing seamless connections with the Town of Banff's attractions and municipal transportation service.
Feedback from stakeholders was generally supportive of a Meet & Greet Mobility Centre close to the TransCanada Highway. Comments highlighted the need for secure parking and also for a sufficient number of parking spaces in the aggregate to accommodate tourist visits to the Town. The suggestion was made to create a cost differential that would encourage visitors and others to use the Meet & Greet Mobility Centre as opposed to street parking. Linkages with convenient shuttle services were seen to be a key factor for successful implementation of this Strategic Element.
To create the necessary critical success factors for a fully functional integrated mobility approach, parking will be managed throughout the Town of Banff, especially in the downtown. During construction of the Meet & Greet Mobility Centre, fee-based parking in the downtown core will be phased in. Once complete, the Meet & Greet Mobility Centre will provide at least as much parking capacity as is currently available in the Town's centre and will provide a functional hub for regional transportation options.
