Manage Oversize Vehicles and Overflow Parking

In support of the Bow Smart Mobility Partnership...

oversized vehicles will be managed in major frontcountry parking facilities.

At certain locations (especially Upper Lake Louise / Moraine Lake) a combination of measures will be applied to control parking and traffic congestion and the barrier effect that these have on wildlife movements. The solution package includes a ban on oversized vehicles and a prohibition on overflow parking that currently spills for several kilometres onto the access roads.

At the same time, alternative parking will be created on the valley floor to accommodate this traffic and, in addition, a shuttle bus service will be implemented for transferring visitors to their final destination. Vehicle traffic will be counted on a real-time basis and information on available parking will be conveyed electronically to approaching visitors.
