Urban Design in Canmore

To accomplish goals common to the Bow Smart Mobility Partnership and its own Transportation Mast Plan, the Town of Canmore...

will continue to refine its bylaws, municipal planning and development approval processes to support a balanced and coordinated mobility framework within its municipal boundaries.

Canmore's plans to facilitate pedestrian access and de-emphasize the car are echoed in this Strategy. As part of the regional shift away from car traffic, the Town will make continual improvements to signage, bike and pedestrian access, intersection redesign and pedestrian crossings of major obstacles including the CPR line and the TransCanada Highway. In addition, the Town Planning Department will introduce and enforce bylaws that require new developments be designed to accommodate and encourage transportation options other than simply the passenger vehicle.
