Give Variable Pricing Choices

will implement an electronic toll collection system with variable pricing according to peak times of day. Revenues from the initiative will be shared amongst jurisdictions for the implementation of Bow Smart Mobility Partnership projects.

The use of time-of-day based fees will help to encourage desirable patterns of visitation and use, thereby reducing the demands on facilities during peak times. Variable fees can also be used to encourage high occupancy vehicles. Specific fee levels need to be set based on a variety of criteria, addressing the need to change the patterns of people's travel habits while attempting to keep fees at a level that will not result in reduced levels of visitation given the importance of tourism to the local economy.

Innovative methods such as an Electronic Toll Collection System (ETCS) can be considered for collecting tolls/fees on high-speed routes such as the TransCanada Highway. With this technology, delays to the traveling public are minimized. Combinations of old and new technologies can also be considered if necessary, to address the needs of a multi-user environment.
